The communications between the Higher Spirits and Hilma af Klint resulted in more than 26,000 pages of notes. These writings are essential, yet are often overlooked.
In this course, we explore the symbolic language and teachings found throughout the writings, and trace their connections to a broader esoteric tradition.
“The infinite reason and the boundless love, crossed each other and from the center point that arose sprang forth a necessity for the eternal being to manifest itself. ”
The aim of this course is to develop a deeper understanding of the underlying and overarching message that runs through the spiritual teachings received by Hilma af Klint and her companions. At the centre of these teachings is the idea of unity and oneness, and of human evolution as a movement towards a renewed understanding of this interconnectedness.
The works of Hilma af Klint and her companions are intricate, layered and, in many ways, still mysterious. Their work was developed over many years, alongside an extensive body of spiritual and philosophical teachings. The spirits did not simply transmit images. They trained and guided the group over an extended period, introducing complex ideas concerning evolution, consciousness, symbolism, polarity, matter and spirit.
Hilma herself did not always understand what she was receiving. The paintings, diagrams and writings often came before their meaning could be fully grasped. This is an important part of approaching the material today. We do not claim to possess the definitive key to the works, nor do we believe that there is a single fixed interpretation. Rather, having studied the material extensively and lectured on it over many years, we want to make our knowledge available and invite participants into a sustained exploration of the material with us.
The course is therefore a journey through the paintings, writings and symbolic language of Hilma af Klint and her companions, approached in a structured way and grounded in the original material.
Each session will focus on a particular area that we consider important for understanding the works. Throughout the channeled writings, there are extensive descriptions of symbols, philosophical ideas and spiritual truths. We will bring these writings into dialogue with the paintings and with relevant works and teachings from other spiritual and esoteric traditions.
Rather than treating individual symbols as isolated signs, we will investigate the larger symbolic language in which they operate. What does a symbol reveal about the relationship between spirit and matter? How are polarity and unity expressed? What is the relationship between the individual human being and the larger process of evolution?
We might, for example, spend an entire session with the cube and the cross, tracing their significance through Hilma af Klint's work and beyond it. Another session may centre on the rose, examining its symbolism both within her paintings and across wider philosophical, mystical and esoteric traditions.
Through these symbols, we begin to encounter some of the deeper structures underlying the works.
Before each lecture, participants will receive a carefully curated selection of study material related to the theme of the session. This may include excerpts from the channeled writings, paintings, diagrams and relevant material from other traditions and thinkers.
The intention is not simply to receive information, but to learn how to enter the material ourselves: to look closely, make connections, ask questions and gradually develop a more nuanced understanding of the symbolic world in which the works emerged.
The course will culminate in a collaborative discussion in which we bring together the themes, questions and discoveries that have emerged throughout the journey.
We do not offer a final answer; we offer a body of material,
years of study and a framework through which to approach it together.
Hilma af Klint stands as one of the most compelling figures in modern art. She was part of a small circle that communicated with beings of other densities, who guided and instructed them in higher philosophies. Together they produced a remarkable body of work: approximately 26,000 pages of handwritten notes alongside a large number of paintings and drawings, some created entirely under trance and others through quiet inspiration. This course invites you to look beyond the spectacle and into the symbols that give her work its lasting resonance.
Elisabet Kedziora and Isak Burström have long devoted themselves to the study of Hilma af Klint's work. Elisabet engaged with her material in depth at university, and both individually and together they have developed lectures and held live immersive events in Swedish cinemas centered on Hilma af Klint's communications.
Both have been involved in the work of protecting her legacy from being sold as mere art, in the firm belief that this is material of study for understanding the inner worlds — given to humanity by high spirits, meant to be treated with the utmost respect and carrying a deep mystery for us humans to strive to understand.
These lectures are a deep dive into that journey to come closer to their meaning.
The course runs over a few evenings this autumn. If you would like to take part, leave your email and we will be in touch with the details.
